We are thrilled to announce that Lower Sixth Form student, James B has emerged as the overall winner of the KS4/5 ISA Shakespeare Monologue competition, outshining over 290 other entries. Professor Charlotte Scott, the adjudicator, commended James’ performance, stating:
“A brilliant Richard II, introspective, entitled, emotive and authoritarian. A wonderful range of emotions and attitudes as well as beautifully spoken.”
James has been invited to perform his monologue live at Mary Arden’s Farm in Stratford-upon-Avon, courtesy of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in April. Alongside the performance, James will have the opportunity to explore the site and participate in a workshop provided by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust team.
Congratulations are also due to Tara T-K (Year 12) and Jasper D (Year 8).
While they didn’t secure a place, the adjudicators praised all participants, noting:
“The quality of the submissions was extremely high…. Every single entry had its own merit, and every single performance was delivered with energy, imagination, intent and skill. There are only very few awards I am able to make, but every school that takes part and delivers such exceptional teaching of Shakespeare is a credit to the arts and humanities.”
